What it covers
- Almost all JR trains nationwide, including most Shinkansen
- Nozomi and Mizuho Shinkansen only with an extra supplement ticket
- JR buses and the JR Miyajima ferry
- Not: private lines, subways, Hakone Tozan, most airport express trains not run by JR
The test
Add up your individual long-distance tickets. A Tokyo–Kyoto–Osaka loop costs roughly ¥30,000 — less than a 7-day pass. The pass pays when you add longer trips such as Hiroshima, Kanazawa or Tohoku within seven days.
