Koyo moves the opposite way to sakura, starting in Hokkaido in late September and reaching Tokyo and Kyoto from mid-November to early December.
- Kyoto: Tofuku-ji, Eikan-do, Arashiyama — many temples hold evening illuminations
- Nikko and Lake Chuzenji: mid-October
- Hakone: early–mid November
- Tokyo: Rikugien garden, Icho Namiki ginkgo avenue
