Cash trays, bags, haggling and opening hours.

- Put cash or cards in the small tray at the till, not in the cashier's hand
- Don't haggle — prices are fixed, except at some flea markets
- Plastic bags usually cost a few yen; carry a foldable bag
- Shops typically open 10:00–20:00; department-store food halls (depachika) discount in the last hour
- Cards are widely accepted in cities; small craft shops may be cash only
