Omiyage — gifts brought back from a trip — are a serious tradition in Japan. Stations and airports sell beautifully boxed, individually wrapped regional sweets designed for exactly this.

  • Regional sweets: Tokyo Banana, Shiroi Koibito (Hokkaido), yatsuhashi (Kyoto)
  • Matcha and sencha from Uji
  • Kit Kat in regional flavours
  • Furoshiki wrapping cloths and tenugui towels
  • Chopsticks, ceramics and lacquerware
  • Stationery from Itoya or Loft
  • Japanese whisky and sake (check your home allowance)
