The sequence is the same at every airport: immigration (fingerprints and photo), baggage claim, customs, then the arrivals hall where you'll find SIM counters, ATMs and the train stations.

Customs: what to know
- Duty-free: 3 bottles of spirits (760 ml each), 200 cigarettes, gifts up to ¥200,000
- Some common medicines (including certain ADHD and strong cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine) are restricted — check the Ministry of Health guidance before packing
- Declare cash over ¥1,000,000 or equivalent
- Fresh meat, fruit and plants are tightly controlled
