Visit Japan Web: how to set it up before you fly
The free government site that turns immigration and customs forms into QR codes. Ten minutes at home saves queueing at the airport.
Last reviewed · Sep 2026

Visit Japan Web (VJW) is the official, free digital arrival service. You enter your passport and trip details once, and it generates QR codes for immigration and customs at Narita, Haneda, Kansai and other major airports.
- Create an account at the official Visit Japan Web site (it's free — avoid paid look-alikes)
- Register yourself and any family members travelling with you
- Add your trip: arrival date, flight number and first accommodation
- Complete 'Disembarkation card for foreigner' (immigration) and 'Customs declaration'
- Display the QR codes — save screenshots too, in case airport Wi-Fi fails
Paper forms are still available on the plane and at the airport if you prefer them — VJW is optional, just faster.
